My 3-year-old gerbil's stomach is bloated and heavy. Is she sick?

I have 2 female gerbils that are 3 years old, ive never had any issues with their health and they both seem to be enjoying burrowing, eating and drinking and coming to me happily. today ive noticed Robyn's stomach appears to be very bloated and she feels very heavy compared to usual, she lets me touch her and is still very active. Could she just be bloated or is it likely to be a medical condition with her being 3? Thanks. Pet's info: Small Animal | Gerbil | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 6 months old

Thanks for reaching out about Robyn. A distended stomach could be bloat, but also infected foreign body, internal tumor or other concern. A veterinary visit is recommended either way, the sooner the better. She is getting up there in years, but age is not a disease. Good luck.
