Dog sluggish, not eating/drinking. Could his new Thundershirt be why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 32 lbs

My dog ozzy is currently behaving very sluggish. This is not like him. All he wants to do is sleep. He is not eating his food, treats or drinking his water. He is normally very hyper. We just bought him a thundershirt to help with his anxiety. Could this be the cause? Bought the thundershirt 2 days ago. He wears it for about 3 - 4 hours a day.

Hello, as much as I wished the Thundershirt worked this well, I am concerned there is actually something else going on with Ozzy. To be this lethargic, & have no interest in eating or drinking means he is ill with something. The symptoms are too vague to be more specific, but such a change in attitude & appetite is definitely a sign that Ozzy is not feeling well. You could take his temperature rectally, & anything over 103F is a real fever, but I would try to arrange an appointment with your veterinarian today or tomorrow so you do not have to worry about him all weekend. I hope he is feeling better soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Ozzy is experiencing very general symptoms of disease, these symptoms could fit almost any internal condition, maybe he is suffering from nausea due to a gastrointestinal disease and maybe he is in pain, from the symptoms described it's very hard to know. i would recommend taking him to the vet as soon as possible in order to get him checked, if he doesn't show any other obvious symptoms during the examination, a blood test and possibly an ultrasound will be needed in order to try and find out what is wrong with Ozzy.
