My dog can't pee, is bloated, in pain, and not eating. Is it a UTI?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 6 lbs

My chug (chihuahua-pug) doesn’t want to urinate this morning. It seems as if she has a really full bladder because her stomach looks full and bloated like if she’s holding it but only a little bit a urine comes out at a time. She stays in one place and When I try to pick her up she cries out in pain. She doesn’t want to eat/drink/move around. Does she possibly have a UTI? I did notice she had a little Diarrhea and loss of appetite yesterday morning. Please help.

She may indeed have a UTI, but also a slipped disc in her spine could make urination painful, or bladder stones. Since not being able to urinate can be a life threatening condition and cause kidney damage, it is very important that you take Leeloo to your veterinarian ASAP, ie this is an emergency. Please call your vet now.
