Adopting a dog with Uveitis: Is treatment costly and will she snap?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Vizsla | Female | spayed | 5 years and 3 months old

Hi, we are considering adopting a Vizsla but just been informed she has Uveitis. She’s 4 and has had this before. We have a male 2 year old Vizsla already but thought he’d like a companion. In your opinion is Uveitis an expensive condition to treat long term as I understand it could be a side effect of other underlying issues plus she’ll be in pain so I’m worried about her snapping at our current dog. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

That's a good question. I would recommend making her adoption contingent on an exam and consultation with an oncologist (at your cost) to get this question adequately answered. Based on my knowledge, it's important to find an underlying cause for the uveitis and that process can be expensive, and then whatever is causing it could be expensive. It definitely not a no-big-deal thing. But if you're interested in her, and could afford it, getting her a specialist consultation would be wonderful
