My dog ate a cactus plant and is throwing up. Is this an emergency?

My dog accidentally ate cactus plant. Not whole but he pucked a little bit of food.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Puku! Fortunately most cacti are not toxic but they can cause stomach and intestinal irritation leading to vomiting and diarrhea. I would with hold water for 6 hours then restart with sips of water frequently. I would fast for 12 hours and if there is not vomiting during the fast or with the small amounts of water then start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice as small frequent meals for a few days. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day. If the vomiting is excessive or he won't eat I'd have your Vet examine him. Have a great weekend!
