My dog has a bite cut near genitals, not bleeding. Stitches needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Basenji | Female | spayed

My dog got bite by another dog and she got a clean cut from one side of her vagina to the opening. It's a good size cut but it's not bleeding or irritating her. Should I take her in for stitches? Let it heal on it's own and keep an eye for infections?

Due to the area I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian. Dog bites almost always need antibiotics, as well as if it heals abnormally I worry that it could cause frequent urine scald issues. Stitches would probably be warranted. Best of luck and I hope she heals soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
