My dog's eye is closed, squinting, and has discharge. Is it an infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 80 lbs

Patchy keeps her one eye closed. Sometimes she will open it. Think she could have a cold in her eye. Little discharge in corner of her eye. She squints as if she hurt it. When she opens her eye, the corner has the topical eye bugges.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. With your description, I would recommend taking patchy in to be seen by a veterinarian. I would recommend having the I stained to see if there is trauma to the surface of the eye. If there is I drops will be needed to treat the affected area in the eye. If there is trauma to the surface of the eye, it is best to be treated sooner rather than later. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns that you may have and I would be more than happy to help you further.
