Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Male | unneutered | 12 years and 9 months old | 40 lbs
I have a queensland Heeler that is 13,he has lost a lot of weight in just a month.But I feed him 2 times a day,and I have him on a senior diet of grain free we just switched to grain free and he is eating even better.I also bought grain free can food that is supose to hel them gain weight.my question is could he be diabetic or should I be more concerned about cancer?He is still active and no pain

Hi there! It does sound like Trooper probably has some type of medical condition that is causing him to lose weight. There are many things that could cause this, so it's hard to say what might be wrong without being able to examine him and run some tests. Some common possibilities in addition to diabetes and cancer in older dogs would include chronic kidney or liver disease, or heart disease. I would recommend taking Trooper to the vet for an exam when you are able to. Your veterinarian can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the cause of his weight loss and see what can be done to treat the problem.
