My cat chewed a pin cushion. Should I worry about swallowed pins?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 9 lbs

I came home to find a red pin cushion on the couch with teeth marks in it (the cat must have knocked it off the shelf) I'm 95% sure that there wasn't any pins in it but I'm still a little bit worried. She's not showing any signs of swallowing something sharp and has been playing normally all evening. She has also eaten, drunk water and peed since then

Just keep a close eye on her like you're doing. If she swallowed a pin she may have a stomach ache, stop eating or vomit. If you see her do any of these things or if she becomes lethargic please take her in right away for an exam and x-ray. That will determine if there is a pin inside. If so it will probably need surgical removal. If she's doing fine I don't think you need to worry. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Pond.
