How to train my dog to pee in the morning before I leave for work?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | 1 year and 10 months old | 55 lbs

Ella will not go pee in the mornings and it’s tricky because I have to work and I can’t have her hold her pee for that long. I’ve tried taking her out earlier at night and that doesn’t work either. I’m assuming she doesn’t want to go inside or she doesn’t want me to leave. Any suggestions?

I would start training her to go pee on command. Start with giving a go pee command and when she goes praise her and give her a treat. Take her to the same place to go each time and reward every time she goes so she will learn the command and what you want. I would have her hungry when doing this and have a special yummy treat for your reward. Soon she will learn to go when you ask. Most dogs like to please their owner so I think this will help your situation. Also you may want to give her a chewy treat when you leave so she's busy with it and not focused on your leaving for work. Be patient this may take a few weeks.
