Is it safe to clean my dog's green eye discharge with salt water?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 years old | 50 lbs

My pitbull is always got green slim in the mornings in both eyes, sometimes its dry or slimy . Is it ok if i clean it with salt water?

I woulIt sounds as your dog is suffering from an eye infection, it is relatively common in dogs. you will need to take him to the vet the first chance you get, the vet will check the eyes, if it is indeed a simple eye infection your vet will prescribe an antibiotic eye drops that will probably solve the problem in no time.d not recommend to clean it with salt water.

    Hi, to gently wipe your dog’s eyes you could used plain boiled water (when cooled down) or camomile tea (always cool) and clean it 3-4 times a day. I would get some money together to have him checked over as greenish discharge can be a sign of infection and with eyes t is always better to get on top of the problem sooner rather than later. Hope this helps !

Yes, I would be concerned in that it isn't normal to have green discharge from the eye. This can be a sign of an eye infection. I would take Hercules into the vet first thing in the morning to have his eyes examined. The vet can diagnose if he does have an eye infection, and can prescribe medication to treat it. Yes the saline rinse will help but this sounds like conjunctivitis and it will heal more quickly with an ophthalmic antibiotic. Dogs get conjunctivitis from eye irritation from pollution, pollen, smoke in the air and sometimes from a cold. Can i use human eye wash to clean dogs eyes
If it is just a saline eye wash than you can use it to clean her eyes. If she is having problems with her eyes than it would be a good idea to have a vet examine her to determine the cause. She may need medications to treat.

It sounds like Falkor may have an eye infection. You can gently clean the eye out with saline, but I would not use those medications you have on them. Legally, I cannot say if it's safe to use them on Falkor because doing so requires a veterinary client patient relationship which cannot be achieved via an internet forum. In addition, the experts cannot say for certain if a specific drug is safe for your dog. They could also be the wrong drug for his condition, and they could be expired. His eye does need to be examined by a vet, which can let you know if it's safe to use those medications, or can prescribe him new ones. I would have him seen by a vet right (and bring the meds with you), as any eye condition should be considered an emergency (leaving them untreated can lead to vision loss).

I'm not sure what disinfectant you are referring to exactly but i wouldn't recommend applying anything to Harley's eyes without having the eyes checked first. it's very likely to be a bacterial eye infection and for this type of infection you will need to use an antibiotic eye drops that you can get from your vet only.

Poor Blaze! I'm sorry to hear that he's having a problem with is eye. Squinting, excessive draining, and a "glazed" look can be caused by an eye infection, or by an injury to the eye such as a corneal scratch or ulcer. He will need an eye exam by your vet to diagnose the problem, and will probably need prescription meds to treat it effectively - so it's good that you're planning to take him in for a visit when you can. In the meantime, I would not recommend using any type of ointment or medication in th eye until you can see the vet to find out what's wrong - eyes are delicate, and you can accidentally make the problem worse by treating with something inappropriate. You can use plain saline eye wash to gently rinse his eye, if he'll let you, and use a warm washcloth or cotton ball to wipe away the discharge if it seems to be bothering him. This will not treat the underlying problem, but may help to make him a bit more comfortable until you are able to see the vet.
