My dog has roundworms. How to protect my kids from infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | 10 years and 6 months old | 40 lbs

We just found out my dog has round worms. I've already started him on meds. I have small children. I'm wondering how secluded I have to keep my dog to prevent my little ones from getting infected

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Your children would have to get Max's stool in their mouths or mucous membranes. As long as you pick up his stool and cleaning up after any accidents that usually prevents any infections in children. Kids can also get it from eating contaminated dirt. They should always wear shoes and sand boxes should be covered to prevent cats from using it as a litter box. I hope this helps! https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/toxocariasis/gen_info/faqs.html
