My puppy won't eat his food but is drinking water. Should I worry?

My puppy wont eat this evening but she can drink a small amount of water instead of eating her food. Please reply.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Az. I'm sorry to hear he is not eating. If he continues to refuse food, he will need to see a veterinarian as he is so young. He may have intestinal parasites, an upset stomach or a more serious viral infection. In the meantime, continue to offer him and water and try hand feeding him. Monitor for signs of vomiting and diarrhea. I hope this information helps!

    I couldn't tell you what is wrong exactly but it is not normal and it is a sign of probable disease, possibly gastrointestinal related, i would recommend taking him to the vet today to get it checked.

    There are many reasons for a dog to go off his food but in a puppy, this can be extremely serious. They get weak and dehydrated very quickly. I suggest you get him to your vet for an exam as soon as possible. Some possible reasons for his symptoms: * parvo virus * distemper virus * intestinal parasites (worms) * dietary indiscretion * foreign body obstruction * congenital organ abnormality * hypoglycemia

Hello there. That is a good question! Sorry to hear that Jax is not feeling well. You should definitely be concerned. It is really not normal for a puppy to not want to eat. One meal......not a huge deal but if this continues for more than 12 hours or if he starts vomiting, is very lethargic, begins having diarrhea or otherwise acts abnormal then you need to take him to your vet immediately! This can be an early sign of something more serious. Puppies can go from bad to worse quickly so you don't want to wait to long to get them medical help if they need it. I hope that a Boxer puppy at 8 weeks of age weighs more than 3 pounds so I hope that is a typo or I definitely think he is not getting enough food.... Jax will need to be seen by a vet at 12 weeks of age for vaccine boosters, a fecal test and dewormer so be sure to make that appointment. My 8 week old puppy is bright and energetic but has gone off his food, he had a big meal in the morning a few mouthfuls at lunch and nothing for his third meal, so I need to worry?
Hello. If he's bright and alert and feeling well drinking water no vomiting and no diarrhea I would not be too concerned at this time. But if he refuses to eat tomorrow or shows any signs of lethargy loss of activity vomiting diarrhea, he does need to be seen as soon as possible. Hopefully he'll feel better in a day or so. My dog is drinking water but not eating making noise when I touch he's stomach
Hi there! Sorry to hear that Bruno is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Bruno evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start him on medications to make him feel better. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your boy!

My puppy hasn’t been eating since yesterday. He eats if he’s given bread but nothing else Neither wet food, nor dry. I tried heating up the food, Mixing it, Adding warm water in dog food, but nothing seems to work. He ate half spoon of peanut butter
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Austin. I suspect that he is not feeling well as evidenced by his decreased appetite. Has he developed any other signs such as vomiting or diarrhea? If so, he should see his veterinarian. He may require deworming medication or other treatment. In the meantime, keep trying to get him to eat and offer plenty of water. I do not want him to become dehydrated as he is so young. I hope this information helps.

My 8 month pup has been really fussy with food I’ve changed it 3 times he will eat it if spoon fed but today he won’t eat or drink anything including his favourite treats he’s just sleeping
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Boy. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian today as I am concerned that he is ill. If he is refusing to eat and is only sleeping, this is worrisome behavior in a puppy. Depending on his exam findings, his veterinarian will direct you as far as necessary diagnostics and treatment options. In the meantime, continue to offer him water to try to prevent dehydration. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!

This is definitely a problem. If a puppy doesn't want to eat it is sick. The most common reasons for a puppy this age to be sick are: viral disease (like parvo), intestinal parasites and intestinal obstruction. Being that he is so young and vomiting my first thought is parvo virus. This is an often fatal disease so you need to get him to a vet as soon as possible. You need to realize that some things cannot be fixed at home and this is one of them. He needs to see a vet. There is nothing I can tell you to do at home without knowing what the underlying cause of his symptoms are. The symptoms he has are not specific for any one disease or issue but they are concerning.

Hello i just got a 8 week old shih tzu i cant get him to eat or drink anything im using the same food products he was being fed before i got him
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bleu Smith. I recommend that he see a veterinarian today. The stress of a new home and environment can cause a low appetite. However, so can illness. Being such a young puppy, it will be easy for his blood sugar to drop too low from not eating. I recommend placing some karo or maple syrup on his gums and seeking care I hope this information helps!

Unfortunately, this is not normal behavior for a young puppy and is pretty concerning. At less than two months old, your puppy needs to eat regularly or he risks having low blood sugar, which can cause serious health problems. Vomiting is not typically caused by stress and all these signs make me worry about a more serious illness. Please have him seen by a veterinarian right away because his lack of appetite and vomiting are very serious.

I'm so sorry. It sounds like Yasmin is very sick. If it is at all possible, get him in to a veterinarian as soon as you can. He is probably dehydrated and in need of some IV fluids. His blood sugar also may be dangerously low. If you are absolutely unable to get him to a vet, you can see if he will eat or drink if you hold it up for him. Please do not force water or food into his mouth, especially if he's extremely weak or not responding, as this increases the chances of him aspirating (inhaling the food or water into his lungs and developing pneumonia). You can also try rubbing a little honey or corn syrup on his gums--if his blood sugar is low this may temporarily help. However, ultimately the underlying cause will have to be treated. I would have Moja seen by a vet immediately. It's very concerning when a young puppy won't eat, and it could be caused by a serious illness, such as parvovirus, distemper, intestinal worms, infection, or injury among other causes. It's important to have the cause of his anorexia diagnosed so he can be treated. Please take him into a vet now.
