My cat has a red crusty sore on his head that's getting bigger. What is it?

My cat has this red crusty sore on his head what could it be , and should I be concerned , it seems like it is getting bigger as the days go by, he has had this for about a week already, but it did not look this big or red .

Hi. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would recommend taking Gizmo to the vet to have this sore assessed. It may be an eosinophilic granuloma which is an immune reaction to a possible allergen. Or it could be a bite wound or other irritation. If it is getting bigger he needs to be seen before it spreads more. Gizmo is a handsome fella. I hope he's better soon.
