My unneutered dog is limping and can't get up. Is it related to neutering?

It is difficult to see blood in the picture but his skin looks red and it looks like he has been licking a lot. He could have a urinary tract infection causing the blood and may need an antibiotic. He may also have allergies causing the redness of his skin and licking. As for his paw, he may have a strain or sprain Causing the lameness. He really needs to be examined by a vet to diagnose all his problems and determine the best way to treat them. He may need an antibiotic, allergy medications, and an anti-inflammatory.

It sounds like your vet did all the right things. You could do a urine culture as a double check for an infection (although that would be very uncommon in an adult male dog). I would be starting to get concerned about a tumor within the penis or possibly a neuromuscular issue preventing normal urine flow. If your vet is out of ideas (as I am), the next step would be going to a specialist, probably an internist.

Possible causes of Bruno's limp are: strain or a sprain from being stepped on, if he is older it could have aggravated arthritis, a toe or a bone could be broken, or it could be something unrelated like Lyme disease. Since Bruno can hardly walk on the leg that indicates pain. I recommend having Bruno seen by your Vet for an exam. If there is concern for the paw then they may want to take X-rays, otherwise they may just prescribe anti-inflammatories and rest. I hope this helps and I wish Bruno a speedy recovery!

That wound may be painful but it may not be the cause of the limping. It does not appear 'fresh' as I would expect it to if it just happened. Since Roscoe can't talk, only a physical exam will be able to determine the source of the lameness. Just like people, the pain/limping can be related to many causes including a ligament tears, soft tissue injury, a developmental abnormality or even a spinal issue. You may try strict rest for a few days (no walks, running, jumping or stairs). You should gently wash that area on the foot and rinse it well. Make sure to protect the area from licking by having him wear an elizabethan collar. Keep him on soft surfaces. If Roscoe does not improve after a few days or if he gets worse, have him examined by the veterinarian. He may need radiographs and the doctor will determine this based on the exam. Only they know exactly what was performed and what treatment was given. If his leg doesn't get better quickly, consult your vet and follow their emergency directions if they are closed. Not sure what is going on without knowing more and being able to examine Oreo. This problem could be associated with some trauma or something else that is affecting the leg such as pain or inflammation from an injection he received. I think other possibilities for lameness should be considered. Lameness can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Hi there. Limping could be caused by a number of different things, so it's hard to say what might be wrong without being able to examine your dog and run some tests. He may have an orthopedic problem like hip dysplasia or a torn cruciate ligament in his knee, a soft tissue injury like a sprain or pulled muscle, or some type of neurologic problem. I would recommend taking him to the vet to have this checked. He/she can do a complete orthopedic exam and may also take x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Jax may be humping due to being intact. Dogs can also hump if they are anxious or to show dominance. Neutering him may help curb this behavior. The pain may be due to friction and trauma. I would stop him as soon as he starts to hump. I hope this helps!
