Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | unspayed | 15 years and 3 months old | 15 lbs

Any idea what this can b on my dogs head?I took her 2a vet & he really didnt know.It started out looking like a black patch of skin(as if she was going bald&she had a birth mark)around the front&abv her ear, down to abt jowl. Theres no texture 2 it- it looked smooth like skin. Then she developed wha looked like a bump, that was a lil squishy (like it was a lil swollen w/fluid, then seemed 2 open up aft abt a week & looks crusty & scabby. Took her to a vet who didnt know.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Penny. Skin disease is frustrating as many conditions can look the same. I would have a fungal culture performed to check for ringworm and skin scrapes to check for mites. If it isn't either of these, I would put her on antibiotics to treat for a dermatitis. I would also look down her ears canals to ensure she has not been scratching secondary to an ear infection. I hope this information helps and is a good starting point for you.
