My cat's eye ulcer looks healed. Do I still need a vet follow-up?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, Last week my cat was diagnosed with an eye ulcer. We've been giving her medicine as directed for a week and the eye looks well now. The followup is expensive and we don't have a lot of money. Is a followup absolutely necessary? Is there something I can be looking out for that tells me she isn't healed? Thank you!

I do recommend a follow up but if she is no longer squinting and the cornea is clear, not cloudy, and the conjunctiva is not red or swollen then you are fine to finish the medication as directed and monitor her at home for problems. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for you cat.
