Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Sherlock! I am so sorry for the loss of your dog. I am assuming little Sherlock is being bottle fed puppy formula. Puppy formula can be very hard on puppies either causing diarrhea or constipation. I would try a different brand or mix 2 different brands together to off set each other. The other possibility is that if his mother died of a virus he could also have it. If he stops nursing you should immediately take him to your Vet for them to continue supportive care and/or possibly teach you how to tube feed. You can also start deworming Sherlock at 2 weeks and repeat dewormings every 2 weeks. Parasites can cause loose stool. I recommend putting a call in your Vet since they evaluated his mother. I hope this helps and I wish little Sherlock the best!

Wow Sherlock is adorable!! If a dog has mild constipation adding a lot of moisture to the diet (feeding canned food or adding warm water to dry food) can help as can adding some fiber to their diet (teaspoon of canned pumpkin). If they have more severe cosntipation they need to see a veterinarian for treatment which can include an enema and fluids. But if a puppy that small has eaten stuffing from puppy pads and carpeting you also need to worry about some of that material getting stuck in Sherlock s stomach or intestine. If he continues having a poor appetite or if he starts vomiting I would also have him seen by your veterinarian for an x-ray.
