My horse's hock is swollen, yellow after kick. Does he need a vet?

My horse has been kicked and has a cut on his hock - it isnt bleeding at all and the flesh has turned yellow, I have thoroughly cleaned with antiseptic wash and hosing as the leg has swollen but he is not lame at all on it. What do I do? continue to wash and keep clean and put him out in the field or do i need antibiotics?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Without seeing what you are referring to it makes it hard to give advice but based on your description I would say he likely has cellulitis and probably needs antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory medication to reduce the swelling and completely clear his condition. It sounds like you did a great job with wound care but you really should have your vet out at this stage to prescribe some medications. Hope this answers your question. Best wishes.
