Can I give my puppy cherry liquid Benadryl with red dye for allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | unspayed | 3 months old | 9 lbs

My puppy recently had an allergic reacrion to one of her vaccines so they suggested giving her children’s liquid Benadryl. I bought the cherry kind because the only other flavor was Grape and grapes aren’t good for dogs. Although, the cherry flavor has red dye 30 and 44. Is it okay to give my pup this 2 times over the next two days without affecting her?

Yes this should be fine as long as there isn't xylitol in it. If she is 9 pounds, the other option is to give her 1/2 of an adult 25mg benadryl pill which equals the childrens dose of benadryl. This may be easier than trying to get the liquid down her but either one would work. I hope this helps! See link below. https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/#!
