Why is my female rabbit's private area red and inflamed after breeding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 6 days old | 5.4 lbs

I have a blue torte Holland rabbit and not sure if she is in heat or not but her private is red inflammation and she's biting down there this evening and cleaned it and put on a small bit of coca butter Vaseline so she won't be sore. Can you tell me what's wrong I've tried to breed her

She has an infection. It may just be the external structures you can see or it may be coming from the inside (either a bladder infection or a uterine infection). If you have tried to breed her and she isn't getting pregnant then she may very well have an underlying uterine infection. I suggest you get her to a vet for an exam. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
