Pug with tracheal collapse: Can I give two meds or try swimming?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | unneutered | 12 years and 4 months old | 27 lbs

i have a pug that was diagnosed with tracheal collapse,a very severe case. its a near constant cough. he sounds like a pig but constantly. he was prescribed 3 pills and an emergeny vet gave us hydrocodine. the first few days he was getting better and the cough was less deep/violent, but tonight its very bad. my first question is can i give him turbitol, and hydrocodine together, and will having him swim for exercise help him lose weight. moving to much makes him cough so maybe a pool can help?

No, you cannot give him Turbitol and Hydrocodine at the same time, both are very strong opioid drugs and the risk of overdose is very high. i would not recommend any exercise of this sort, concentrate on prescription food for weight loss for now, exercise will literally put his life in danger.
