My dog is limping and in pain. How can I help her paw at home tonight?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Foxhound | Female | spayed | 45 lbs

My dog is favoring her paw and won't put her foot down. Upon inspection of her paw, we weren't able to see anything but found that she yelped when we moved two of her toes. She seems to be in a lot of pain and won't even rest her leg when lying down. We were hoping to help her at home tonight if possible.

Poor Molly. There aren't safe over the counter pain medications for dogs, so your options for tonight are: a) go to an emergency clinic. This isn't necessary for this issue because it's not life threatening, but if she's sufficiently uncomfortable, it's the best option. b) Do a epsom salt bath for 5-10 minutes to see if that helps tonight. Can repeat this in the morning. Call your vet in the morning to have her seen and treated tomorrow I hope that helps and I hope Molly feels better soon! Thanks for using Pet Coach
