My pregnant dog is due soon and has green discharge. Is it distress?

Ok i had just asked a question about my pitbull Izzy and i also was able to check her out a little bit closer and ots not blood coming from her vagina but she is pregnant and due anytime so what could this be?

It appears from the picture that this discharge is green. It is not normal to have this present before the birth of a puppy. This could be meconium, a puppy’s first poop, and when meconium is passed in utero it is indicative of fetal distress. I would very concerned that something is wrong if she having a greenish discharge now before puppies have been born, and my advice is the same as when I last answered your question. I would take her into a vet immediately. Best of luck!

Sometimes green discharge can mean premature placental separation, and this would mean that part or all of the litter is in danger. Usually this means that labor is not proceeding normally and that one pup does not have enough blood supply to survive unless it is delivered quickly. Hopefully this is normal discharge prior to whelping for Ebony, but to make sure I would recommend a visit to your reproduction veterinarian for a full exam. An ultrasound can tell you if the pups are all alive and doing ok, based on counting the heart rates of the puppies and evaluating the appearance of the uterus. If there is premature placental separation, then it is possible that a C-section could be warranted to save that particular pup in distress. Good luck and I hope that helps!

This requires an immediate check up. Green discharge could be a sign of infection of the uterus and may compromise the pregnancy. These are signs of possible miscarriage and problems during labor. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm this clinical suspicion and treat appropriately. My dog is having puppies and it's green stuff coming out and the puppies are dying
It's normal to see some green discharge after puppies are born, but if the discharge comes before the puppies are being born, that can be a sign of a premature placental separation. It's quite concerning that the puppies are dying. They are extremely fragile creatures, and unfortunately some don't make it, but if all of them are dying, that suggestions something seriously wrong. I would take the mother and the puppies into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see them now.

Hi there. Dark green discharge is a sign of placental detachment - so if you are seeing this but no puppies have been produced, I would consider this an emergency and take her to the vet immediately for evaluation. He/she can examine her and assess the situation more fully, but I would be concerned that an emergency C-section is likely needed.

Pepper needs to see a vet immediately, as this is a medical emergency. A green discharge isn't normal and can indicate that the placenta has separated before the puppy has been born. You need to take her into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her now.

Oh goodness. Dark green discharge can absolutely indicate fetal distress. Bulldogs rarely have their puppies without c-section. This could be a life threatening situation for Angel and her puppies. Please have her seen by a veterinarian immediately. Be prepared for a recommendation for a c-section. Also be prepared that the puppies may have been under stress for several hours now and they may not be viable. Please don’t hesitate, this is an emergency. Best of luck and I hope she does well. Okay, so my babe Coco has had a temp ranging from 99.8-98.2 from yesterday until today. Currently temp is reading 99.2 . She is starting to have some discharge I have not noticed before, like a egg white mucous with a VERY light green tint to it. Are
I'm concerned about this color discharge. This can be a sign of premature separation of the placenta. Without seeing Coco in person, I cannot say if this is ok or not. I'd take her into a vet immediately.

Mykka is 57 days pregnant and is leaking a dark green fluid is she in labour or is it something that I should be worried about
If Mykka is 57 days pregnant, she should be very close to giving birth since normal gestation in dogs is generally 57-63 days from the breeding date. If the green fluid is thin and watery, it may be normal discharge signifying that she will be starting labor soon. If it's thick and very dark green, then this is more concerning - usually this indicates a placental separation, which can be dangerous for her and the babies if she isn't quite ready to whelp yet. I would recommend having her checked by a vet as soon as possible - he/she can ultrasound the puppies and check fetal heart rates to see if any of them are in distress or if there are any problems with the appearance of the uterus. Depending on what is found, she may need close observation for the next few days, or an emergency c-section.

My dog is in labour and a dark sac broke 2 hours ago and still no puppy's. The sac is now green, should I be concerned?
Yes I would be concerned about River. While it is normal to see a greenish discharge after puppies are born, having it before puppies can indicate premature separation of the placenta. It's also concerning that two hours have passed since this sac broke and there is no sign of puppies. Boston Terriers frequently have problems giving birth and often require c sections to give birth safely. River needs veterinary attention now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.
