Why did my dog throw up after playing and being in his crate?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 30 days old | 3.5 lbs

My Yochon threw up after being in his crate. He had been playing and I took him out to eliminate but he wouldn’t go. So I put him in the crate for a few minutes. He calmed down but then after 15 min cough up his dinner.

Poor Max! He could have gotten so excited after playing outside that it caused him to vomit. I would refrain from allowing him to play for an hour after eating; conversely, do not feed him for an hour after playing to allow his stomach to settle. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps him. Withhold food for 8 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. after 5 hours of sleeping mex woke up at 5 am and threw up. i usually feed him at 7 so i don’t know if it was the food but is it possible that he threw up because he’s afraid of thunder ? it never happened before but he threw up right after lightning

It sounds like Max is sick and not feeling well. His vomiting could be caused by a severe GI illness, eating something rotten or toxic, a foreign body, or pancreatitis to name a few causes. I'm sorry to hear Max is feeling so ill. If this was sudden and he is still acting very ill, it would be best to seek veterinary care ASAP from your vet or an ER clinic. It is possible there is something that made him ill, something he ate that got him sick, or there is an underlying condition or issue that is causing illness or exercise intolerance which should be checked out. If he has returned to normal, keeping an eye on him and bringing him into your vet if he has another episode is best.

There are many different reasons why Max could be throwing up. It can range from eating something that is up setting his stomach to an intestinal blockage. You can start feeding him a diet of boiled chicken and white rice for the next 24 hours. If he continues to vomit, take him into the vet. Monitor him for diarrhea, lethargy or weakness. Pay attention to if he is drinking and if he wants to eat. If he gets significantly worse, take him in today. I hope Max starts feeling better quickly!

Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. If there isn't an ER clinic in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. I hope this helps!
