What's the best feeding schedule for my new kitten: wet & dry?

Hello, this is my first time having a Kitty and I was wondering how often to feed him. I’ve been told to always have food down and I’ve been told to only feed him twice a day. Currently I feed dry food once in the morning (sometimes it lasts him all day) and I feed him a can of wet food at night. Which way is the correct way to feed him

In all honesty, either way is fine! Given that you do feed Kovu wet food, feeding him twice a day may work best for him. That way, he has fresh canned food every night, and he has the dry food to nibble on during the day. Because you are already feeding him twice a day, I would stay with that! I hope this helps!

Any kitten formulation should be fine to give. Most brands have both wet and dry versions of the same foods so you can offer both without causing GI upset. If you are switching foods, gradually doing so over a period of 7-9 days can help minimize any GI upset. Most kittens should be fed 3-4 times a day and this can decrease to 2-3 once they are a bit older. The wet/dry combo can be spread out however works best for your schedule, however any wet food that is not eaten should be picked up after 15 minutes to avoid spoiling.

I just adopted a Russian Blue 4 month old cat. the person told me to feed her once a day wet food at the same time everyday and leave out dry food for her to pick on. That doesn't sound too right.
Hello. That actually does not sound too unusual. You can certainly offer her the canned twice daily ( my house kitty gets a spoonful morning & evening ), & then he is free to pick at the dry all day. MOST cats are good at self regulating & will not eat too much to become obese, but this is something to watch for as Aspen grows older. It is very much an individual thing, but for now Aspen can be free to eat when he wants to. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

How many times a cat should be fed per day? And what is the best time to give dry food or wet food through the day?
Great question! I personally leave dry food out all day for my cats so they can graze when hungry, but since one of them is pretty fat, it's likely not the best idea lol. The other two cats are skinny though. You can leave a set amount of dry food out during the day for Katniss to eat when hungry, and give her some wet food in the morning and night. I hope this helps!

I am feeding my 2 kittens canned cat food twice a day while free feeding them kitten kibble. I am satisfied so far with this schedule. Is this feeding schedule alright for the long-term? I cannot find canned kitten food at store for a reasonable pric
I think the schedule is reasonable and fine to stick with. Try to keep the majority of the kitten’s being the kitten food. That way most of the food intake will support their growth and development. If you have trouble finding food in the store, you might look online as you can often find it for reasonable prices. Ideally the kittens would eat all kitten food until they are about 11 to 12 months old. You could also feed a canned food that is meant for all life stages as this will support growth as well. Hi, my kitten loves to eat wet food but he's eating less of dry food. I put some water on his dry food and he likes it and eat a lot. But just in few days he won't eat again. I've tried to stop putting water on it but he still eating less of dry food
Some cats prefer one type of food over another. I would just leave dry food out for him to nibble on and then feed him small amounts of canned food twice a day. He has plenty of teeth that he should be able to chew small kibble. He will begin to eat more dry as he continues to get older and gets hungrier. I hope this helps!

I have an about 9 month old male kitten, and I have few questions about his food situation. I have been letting him have dry food when ever he wants, and then giving him 2 cans of wet food, once in the morning and once in the evening. is this ok?
This is fine for right now. If he starts to gain too much weight I would cut back to one can a day. Sometimes cats do very well with having free access to dry food while others need actual meals so people can regulate how much they are eating. The best plan would be to weigh your cat and use the info on the packets to work out her daily intake if she was on just try or just wet food. If you give her half of the wet amount and half of the dry it will work out as a daily ration. I would leave the dry out for her then feed the wet nice and fresh once or twice a day.

Cats have very specific dietary needs, and home diets are not recommended for kittens. Kofi need a kitten food. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina Pro Plan, or Iams. I hope this helps!

Congratulations on your new kitten! So far, it seems sounds like you're doing everything correctly. Pooping twice a day is completely normal. I also recommend feeding twice daily, just as you are doing. Brands that I commonly recommend feeding are Science Diet, Purina ProPlan and Royal Canin. If you choose to make a change in her diet, do so by gradually mix in the old and new foods together over 5-7 days. You can choose to feed exclusively wet or dry food, or a mix of both. This is largely a matter of personal preference. Be sure that you are feeding a food formulated for kittens or "all life stages" to aid in growth. She should continue to eat kitten food until 1 year of age, at which point you can transition to an adult cat food. Enjoy your new little kitten!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is difficult for me to answer because I’m not sure what’s available in your location. In general, I stick with the bigger name brands because they are formulated by veterinary nutritionists. These include Purina, Hills Science Diet, Eukanuba, Royal Canin etc. Choose something that says “kitten” or “all life stages” until about 9 months, then transition to adult formula. I don’t have a preference on dry or wet so whichever you and Ginger prefer. I always also tell people that if finances are a concern, mixing half high-quality and half low-quality is perfectly acceptable. As for amount, approximately 1/4-1/3 cup or 1 -1.5 can per day (split up into two or three meals ideally). This will of course increase as he grows. Best wishes to you and Ginger!
