Can hair dye fumes harm my puppy recovering from bronchitis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 4 months and 26 days old | 5.95 lbs

I am dying my hair in the bathroom. My puppy has had bronchitis with severe coughing but after treatment she has almost fully recovered. Slightly coughs 1-2 a day. Should I worry about the hair dye smell, vapors affecting her? I will go to her only after Im done, washed and dried.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think if you keep Bailey out of the room during the hair dying process, use good ventilation and then do not allow her back in that room until the smell is gone if good enough. I can't imagine her coughing from just smelling your hair so I do not think you need to avoid her. Have a great day!
