Why aren't my 4.5-week-old Yorkie puppies eating their food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 3 days old | 1.7 lbs

I was given two Yorkie puppies yesterday, and they should be about 4 weeks and a half as of today. I don't know if they're eating enough, or if they're sleeping right, or how to measure their growth. I'm using Ebsilac powder and feeding them as it says on the label, but they barely finish have a serving. What do I do?

At four weeks of age, you should be able to start trying to mix in some solid food, or potentially a gruel with wet and dry food together. Dogs will start getting their first puppy teeth right around the age or 3.5 to 4 weeks so they shouldn't have too many problems with the mechanical digestion of the food. If you feel like the puppies aren't eating enough regardless and are failing to thrive, I would get them in your vet for a visit. Hope this helps.
