My newly adopted dog has a dry nose. Can I use Vaseline or is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 3 years and 6 months old | 28 lbs

We just adopted Leela from a rescue that brings dogs from Mexico that are about to be euthanized. Her nose is really dry. Not scaly yet.. But dry. Could I use Vaseline on it? Is there an underlying issue here?

Yes you can use Vaseline (A and D ointment works well too) but they usually just lick it off. This is mild and does not suggest to me an underlying issue. Best of luck and congratulations on the new family member!
