My cat ate Easy Mac cheese powder. Will he get sick? Need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 2 years and 10 months old | 14 lbs

My cat ate a packet of Easy Mac cheese powder. (just the powder, not the packaging) I know it congeals when added to water, so I am worried about what it will do in his belly. Do I need to take him to an emergency vet or just wait it out?

I wouldn't worry too much about this. It wouldn't congeal enough to cause a blockage or anything serious. It may cause him to vomit or have diarrhea though, because this is quite a rich meal. I wouldn't worry if he vomits once or twice, but if he is vomiting more than that for longer than an hour, then it would be best to take Zuko to a vet, because he can get dehydrated and have electrolyte imbalances with excessive vomiting. Below is a link with some more helpful information about vomiting and when a vet may be necessary. https://www.petcoach.co/article/diarrhea-vomiting-in-dogs-when-to-call-your-veterinarian/ For now, it's best to give Zuko's stomach a rest and not feed him again until the morning; but make sure he has plenty of fresh, clean water available. I hope that helps and all is well with Zuko.
