Why is my puppy making choking noises? Kennel cough or allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello, I have a puppy that’s 10 weeks old & she keeps making these choking noises every day and it’s pretty frequently, could there me anything wrong with her throat? Or something stuck she makes those noises but then she’ll be fine, I took her to the vet today but the vet didn’t really check her throat because she didn’t want to open it, he said that it could just be cause she’s small still and it could be an allergy

My best guess is she has kennel cough. It is the most common reason for coughing in puppies. I can almost guarantee that there is nothing stuck in her throat and that it is not an allergy. Both are very unlikely. The vet should have checked her throat as you can usually make them cough with palpation of the trachea. She should be on antibiotics and cough medicine. I suggest you call the vet back and discuss kennel cough and treatment.
