My puppy has diarrhea again after roundworm medication. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Male | neutered | 2 months and 14 days old

My puppy is two months old and has been having diarrhoea since I got him at 8 weeks. I have found roundworms and showed the vet and have had antibiotics and wormers but he seems to go back to having diarrhoea after he finishes medication

Your puppy may have to take a second round of wormer approximately 2 to three weeks after the first. Considering your puppy was severely infected with round worms (if you can see them= severe infection) these worms likely laid a lot of eggs which now have turned into larvae/worms and were not hit by the first round of the wormer. This should then hopefully alleviate the diarrhea.
