My aggressive dog's nail broke. Should I go to an emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 12 lbs

Looks like nail has been pulled or broken at quick. Nails are long and need to be groomed but can't due to aggressive behavior. It is not bleeding but has been bleeding. This happened last night shortly before bed. Is this something that can be addressed at the walk in clinic at the Farragut, Knoxville location? How much would this cost?

Your dog will likely need to be sedated in order to examine the nails and treat the injured nail. At the same time you should have the other nails shortened. It is unlikely that this can be done at the walk in clinic. You can call the store and find out. Otherwise I suggest you find a veterinary office that is open today and have the nail taken care of today, as this is very painful.
