My cat was accidentally kicked. Why is he still having back leg pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 17 lbs

I accidentally kicked my cat. He was sitting by my chair, I wasnt aware he was there, and I got up with some haste and hit the base of his tail. It wasnt that hard, but there was some force to it. He vocalized pain at the time, held his back leg at an odd angle, didnt really walk much for that night. I could tempt him with treat, but besides that he would stay in one place. This was a month ago,he runs and jumps on the bed, but seems to have a little trouble with his back legs sometimes. Is he ok?

Yes, he will continue to improve over time. Luckily cats heal well with orthopedic injuries. Let him rest if he wants to and I would discourage jumping for another month so he won't injury the area again since it's not fully healed.
