Five weeks old is too young for a small breed dog to be taken away from it's mother. They should stay with their mother until 8 weeks of age. Why was he take away so young? These tiny dogs get hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) very easily which can be life-threatening. They also don't regulate their temperature well and can become easily chilled. I suggest you find a local vet and go there for a consultation. They can give you all the information you need. He is very tiny at 1.8 pounds but that is probably a normal weight for this breed at this age. This is not really a great situation. You need a good relationship with your local vet.
