My cat's mouth lump disappeared. Is it serious or just a cyst?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 5 years and 11 months old | 16 lbs

My cat had an oral lump corner of mouth, upper lip, hard and size of a pea found 3 days ago, since than it has completely disappeared, I can no longer feel it or find it at all. If it were a malignant tumor would it disappear completely? And, how on Earth would that be biopsied if it were no longer there? Can a cyst disappear? Can an oral abscess disappear?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If this disappeared then a cancer would very unlikely and a cyst or infection more likely so I would be more hopeful that that is the case. Continue to monitor Cheese and have him examined if this becomes evident again. Good luck and have a great day!
