Kitten swollen eye, sneezing. Is amoxicillin enough for URI?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 29 days old | 2.1 lbs

My 8 week old kitten woke up this am with a swollen eye and sneezing I took her to the vet and he prescribed twice daily doses of amoxicillin. Should he have given her something else for her eye? He didn't seem too concerned about it.

Upper respiratory infections often are accompanied by watery eyes and once the kitten gets a parenteral antibiotic (liquid amoxicillin) this will also affect and work on the eye infection. So, unless the eyes are very severely infected with lots of pussy discharge, there is no need for an eye ointment or eye drops.
