Why are my cat's third eyelids showing, and his belly feels hard?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 15 lbs

What could be causing these eyes? Hes eating drinking playing. But also a little clingy. His belly seems a bit firm and I'm worried about his kidneys liver or being constipated.

Hi and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Simon has his 3rd eyelids raised. In cats this is a general, non-specific sign that he is not feeling well. If he is showing other abnormal signs or you are worried, I would recommend a veterinary exam. The vet will perform a physical exam and ask you questions about his history, habits and behavior. Depending on what they find, recommendations for further diagnostics such as bloodwork may be made. Until you get Simon to the vet, be sure to monitor his eating, drinking, urination and defecation as well as any signs of illness such as vomiting or lethargy. I hope Simon is back to normal soon.
