Dog diarrhea: How long until normal poop? Is solid stool recovery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Akita | Male | neutered | 9 months and 14 days old | 100 lbs

Generally how long after having a short-term diaherra problem does it take to have him exterminate a normal 2-3 times a day? Yesterday after his diaherra problem ended he had a pretty big stool and all solid, is that a sign of recovery?

Yes, usually a normal, solid stool is indicative of recovery. Animals vary (just like humans) on how long it will take to go back to a normal defecation pattern after having diarrhea. I would not be overly concerned as long as the stools are trending toward normal now. Best wishes.
