How do I stop my puppy from eating his pee pads while we sleep?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 months and 17 days old | 14.4 lbs

My puppy keeps eating his pee pads when my family and I are asleep. He’s eaten 4 in the past week. We’ve tried taping down the sides but he peels the tape up. Thankfully, he hasn’t shown any GI problems but how can I avoid this happening?

Puppies can be so destructive! If he has decided that this is what he wants to do then he will likely continue. You may want to consider putting him in a crate at night, small enough that he doesn’t need a potty pad. At 3 months he should be able to hold his urine for 4-5 hours at a time, so taking him out once during the night would still be very normal right now. This method also helps train then to hold their bladder. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
