What's wrong with my Pekingese? Lethargic, hiding, not eating.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pekingese | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 10 months old | 14 lbs

My pekingese, Nala, has been acting strange. Lethargic, hiding, snapping at my other dog, loss of appetite, jumpy and quiet. She is 2 years old so we are very puzzled

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Loss of appetite and lethargy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. Given that she has been snapping at the other dog, this may be due to something causing pain or discomfort. I recommend that you have Nala evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Treatment would be based on findings. Good luck and have a great day! Hoping for a speedy recovery!
