My cat got truck oil on his back. What should I do about the red spot?

I would make sure that you got all the oil and rinse well after washing. She was probably sitting underneath a car and got oily that way. I would observe her for a day and if she shows no sign of illness there is no need to take her to a vet.

Hello. This does look like a spot that maybe your kitty managed to scratch at & caused a sore. I would just dab the area with a little peroxide twice a day & it should start to heal. If other spots should start to appear, your cat may be developing a form of an allergic skin condition called military dermatitis. Poor Sasha! It could be that she injured herself causing this spot. I would clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

It is hard to say exactly what the red spot on Artemis's back may be without examining Artemis first, but I can offer some insights. It could be a fungal infection, a cyst or small tumor, flea allergy, or other environmental allergy, Your veterinarian can diagnose these potential conditions with an exam and a few simple skin tests. While it is possible that they could have developed some sort of allergy, infection or medical condition from the cats I would say it also possible that there is another reason for this. I would recommend that you consider having Diesel evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and of course your child evaluated by the pediatrician. They can then determine if this is really something from the cats or separate conditions/issues and start therapy accordingly. Best of luck!

It looks as if Jack has been licking this spot, meaning it is probably irritating him. It could be from an old wound, a bacterial infection (called a "hot spot"), or even a mite infestation. Unfortunately, when cats groom sore areas they often become more irritated and take longer to heal. If you can, place a cone collar on him or a kitty t-shirt over the area to cover it. I would recommend having it looked at by a vet just to make sure it does not require additional treatment such as antibiotics or medication for mites.

If so, he may have an ear infection. You can also check the ears for redness or a waxy build up. If you notice these signs, then he will need to see a veterinarian. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This looks like a focal infection. You can try to use a topical medication containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks. Thank you for your question about Oliver. I doubt it's a hot spot as you mentioned he has had it for some time. Some things like mite infections, on going allergies or even something like a eosinophilic granuloma can all have this type of appearance and history. While you can try an at home treatment, it may not work as certain conditions need medications in order to clear. If you want to try anything at home, you first need to protect the area from trauma (Oliver's tongue is very rough) by making Oliver wear and elizabethan collar at all times. Try to wash the area daily with an antibacterial hand soap (rinse it well) as long as Oliver tolerates it. Cats can strike out when they are stressed so make sure to not get bitten or scratched. Alternatively, you can get some pet cleansing wipes and clean the area daily. You can apply a small amount of coconut oil and rub it well into the skin-make sure Oliver does not lick at it. Coconut oil has some antibacterial proprieties and conditions

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. Based on its appearance, that resembles a hot spot, or a moist-dermatitis brought about by licking. If it is at the base of the tail, this is a common place for cats to have a flea allergy/infection. I recommend having Baloo seen by a veterinarian who can perform a skin scrape test/cytology to see if there is evidence of secondary bacterial infection and/or other types of external parasites, such as fleas or mites. Baloo will need to wear an Elizabethan collar so that he does not continue to lick at this area and cause further trauma. He will also need to be on monthly topical flea and tick preventatives, purchased from your veterinarian. Flea and tick products that are available in food and pet stores are NOT effective OR safe for use on cats or dogs. I hope this is helpful!
