Why does my dog with tracheal collapse cry when waking? Is it pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | unspayed | 10 years and 1 month old | 6.4 lbs

My dog wakes herself up after about 1hr of sleep while letting out a cry, but will immediately stop and calm down and go back to sleep in another sleeping position. She does have tracheal collapse, but what is causing the crying? We are scared that she might be feeling pain.

I would recommend taking Puffy to the veterinarian. They can evaluate her to see if she is having any evidence of pain. I would also recommend a glucosamine supplement whether they feel she is in pain or not. Glucosamine is a great supplement for older dogs since it will help with arthritic joints.
