My dog's paw pads are discolored and textured. Is it zinc deficiency?

Hello. I noticed that my dog had some discoloration on her paw and when I looked closer I could see it was the paw itself and it is bizarrely textured I looked up the symptoms and found that paw pad hyperkeratosis matched what I saw pretty well. So I saw that one underlying issue could be zinc-responsive dermatosis. I also noticed that some of the pups online with the condition had spots that are similar to what I thought were scrapes on my dog’s face. Am I way off? What does this look like?

Hello, sorry to hear about Willa. It does indeed look like something she may have and can be very responsive to medical management. Zinc responsive dermatosis is within a line of diseases that is diagnosed with exclusion of other potential diseases and may include obtaining skin cultures, biopsies, and frequent examinations. I would recommend having her examined by her veterinarian to determine how likely it is that she has zinc responsive dermatosis as an initial physical exam, skin sampling, and other diagnostics may better help narrow a definitive answer for you. Hope this helps and best of luck.
