Why is my guinea pig's breathing congested and gagging when eating?

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 1 month old | 2 lbs

Hello. My Guinea pig sounds like he has a stuffy nose. His breathing is sounds congested. He’s eating and drinking fine, but I went to give him a carrot his breathing got worst and he started gagging.

He may have a respiratory infection. This will need to be confirmed by your veterinarian after a physical exam. If necessary, the vet can dispense antibiotics. In the meantime, keep Carl warm and as stress free as possible. Keep the cage clean and limit dust and dander as much as possible.
