My unspayed dog has lumps, enlarged liver, pyometra. What should I do?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 9 years and 11 months old | 89 lbs

Background- drinking excessive water x2wk cried 1 night. Vet- Xrays chest abd=Liver Enlarged, Spine arthritis, 2 masses on1 teet. Extensive Bloodwork= Normal and Negative Vet said "no longer believe it is pyometra." 10 days antibiotics week of pain medicine. X-rays for 2nd opinion. Nothing extra found on x-rays...Dx/ estimate is $1,379 for pyometra surgery breast lump removal and biopsy. I feel like I took her to a quack what do I do? I have no more money that cost me $860.

That sounds like a tough situation. Intact female dogs are always at risk of a pyometra, and they aren’t always easy to diagnose. Ultrasound is better for diagnosis than x-rays. Mammary masses can be benign or malignant, but even benign masses can get bigger and cause problems. You could try calling around for a price that is less expensive, but having both surgeries done at the same time will cost a lot. An enlarged liver could also be concerning.
