My parrotlet has a new fleshy growth on its beak. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parrot | Male | unneutered | 1 year old

Noticed unknown round fleshy growth on parrotlet's beak started growing just past month or so. Was never there before. Parrotlet tries to scratch it off but doesn't affect eating/drinking/playing. Attached image of before and now. Any idea what it could be?

This looks like a fibroid tumor but I cannot be certain of this just by looking at a photo. Fibroids are benign but it could also be malignant tumor of some sort or a cyst. I suggest you get him to an avian veterinarian for an exam. I have attached a link to an article that has more information. Best wishes. ( https://petcentral.chewy.com/lumps-and-tumors-in-birds/ )

Thanks for reaching out about Sonu and including photos. That appears to be a xanthoma, a benign mass that results from inflammation and cholesterol deposition. Check and correct diet. If this continues to grow, they can bleed a lot when damaged. Surgical removal of the mass is difficult as the surrounding tissue does not stretch too much to close wounds. Chronic growing lesion might require a partial wing amputation. Good luck.
