My puggle was recently diagnosed with vestibular disease - came on very suddenly. she is still circling and a little wobbly with some weakness on front left side. is there anything I can do to help speed her recovery? My Vet says it usually resolves in 2 - 3 weeks. Just want to know how I can help her. She is 13, in great shape and not overweight. She is in week 14 of a 16 week postop for TPLO surgery. (she was basically back to normal on this)

Hello, and thanks for your question. Unfortunately, the most common cause of vestibular disease is idiopathic - which means it doesn't have an obvious cause, and so there is nothing specific to treat the cause of the vestibular symptoms. In those cases, the best care we can provide is to help minimize nausea, provide supplemental fluids if they're feeling too dizzy to eat & drink, and wait. There are other (less common) causes of vestibular symptoms, such as an inner ear infection or disturbance in the brain - so if Peanut isn't making steady progress in the right direction you could request referral to a neurologist for further workup. However, since the vast majority of these cases are idiopathic, I usually encourage owners to give it time if I don't see evidence of infection or more serious neurologic problems on exam. Here's some more information on vestibular disease if you're interested. https://www.petcoach.co/article/dog-neurological-disorders-vestibular-disease/ Hope this helps and Peanut is back to herself soon!
