My Goldendoodle puppy has red marks and scabs. Should I see the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Male | neutered | 4 months and 15 days old | 24 lbs

Hello, my 4 month old miniature goldendoodle has a few red marks and some scabs on his chest. We went to the vet 3 days ago and he just had one. When I showed the vet she said it was probably just a bug bite. This morning I noticed that he has a few more and some red spots now. Do you think these are just bug bites or should go back to the vet and see someone?

It may be insect bites, it may be a condition common in puppies called puppy pyoderma, or it could be another skin infection. Puppy pyoderma is roughly equivalent to acne in people. Many dogs get it as puppies, most of them outgrow it in a few months without needing any kind of treatment but sometimes it gets bad enough that it needs to be treated, just like some people. If it continues to worsen, get him back in to see your vet and see if Leo needs to get medicated baths and/or some medication to help him clear up his skin.
