Why is my dog eating air and staring strangely? I have bites too!

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 175 lbs

If my dog is jumping up from laying down and appears to be eating (bugs?) from his self and he stares at the bed for several minutes and sniffs all over it (the sheets) and i also have bites what should i do? He has been given flea protection as well as groomed. I rent and the area outback where he uses bathroom stays moist bc of bad drainage and he gets dirty and brings all kunds of things un on him. I ckean his paws thoroughly and wipe him off all over, then sweep up mess and mop. Urs exhaust

This sounds like fly biting activity. Dogs with this disorder seem to have hallucinations: they chase flying items only they can see. You have to consider many underlying medical and behavioral reasons for this behavior. * attention seeking * ocular disease * seizures * metabolic or toxic or neoplastic diseases These all need to be ruled out but the most common reason is seizures.
